Novell announces GroupWise WorkFlow ProfessionalNetscape Communications Corporation has announced Netscape SuiteTools 2.0, a family of development tools for building and deploying applications on Intranets, Extranets and the Internet. Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 is a new suite of tools that delivers Netscape Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0 and Netscape Component Builder 1.0. The suite is specifically designed to enable developers to create applications quickly and easily on the Netscape ONE platform to link businesses and customers together. Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 is specifically designed to take full advantage of the capabilities of the Netscape ONE platform, enabling developers to build powerful Web-based applications by snapping together pre-built software components called JavaBeans. With Netscape SuiteTools 2.0, developers can both link existing JavaBeans together into applications and build additional JavaBean components. Netscape is fully leveraging JavaBeans throughout the Netscape ONE platform, and is using the JavaBean component model to make many Netscape platform services including messaging, directory and database access available to developers. Netscape Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0 contains everything a developer needs to build and test applications, including Netscape Visual JavaScript 1.0, a visual tool for the rapid development of Intranet and Extranet applications. By dragging and dropping a rich array of JavaBean components available from both Netscape and its partners from a component palette into Web pages, developers can easily build applications that can access data stored in relational databases. Netscape Component Builder 1.0 is a development solution for IT professionals who are seeking an advanced solution for developing their own custom Java, JavaScript or CORBA components for use in Netscape ONE applications. Netscape Component Builder 1.0 includes both Symantec Visual CafÇ 2.0 Professional Developer Edition for building JavaBean components, and Acadia JSBean Builder for building JavaScript components. In addition, Netscape Component Builder 1.0 includes the Netscape Component Developer Kit (CDK), a set of tools, training materials and sample code for the creation of Java, JavaScript and CORBA components. Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 is scheduled for availability in the fourth quarter of 1997. Pricing is expected to be $995 per developer seat. Netscape Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0, Visual JavaScript and Netscape Component Builder 1.0 are also scheduled to be available in the fourth quarter 1997 as individual items, and pricing is expected to be $795, $495 and $295 respectively per developer seat.

Oracle, Novell Provide network solutionsOracle Corp. and Novell, Inc. announced delivery of Oracle Application Server and Oracle8, optimized for Novell's NetWare server operating environment. The Oracle and Novell products combine to provide customers with an integrated application platform for building and deploying network computing applications on Intel Architecture-based hardware, delivering on the expanded alliance between the two companies announced in March. Now, developers and end- users can immediately leverage the power and flexibility of Oracle's Internet and data server technology and Novell Directory Services (NDS) to develop and deploy Java compliant, Web- based applications within existing Novell networks. This announcement will enable millions of Novell customers to achieve dramatic cost-savings by leveraging their investments in the Novell operating system with Oracle data server and application server technology. Together, Oracle and Novell provide a network computing solution that can reduce system complexity, provide users with faster and more secure access to critical data and applications, improve management of network resources, and reduce total cost of ownership by providing them with a faster and more economical migration to the Network Computing Architecture (NCA) as defined by Oracle. These Oracle and Novell products are based completely on open industry standards and when deployed together, unleash Java as an enterprise-capable, cross-platform environment. Oracle Web Application Server 3.0, for example, allows developers to easily write new application cartridges in Java, then deploy them across any Intel Architecture-based HTTP server platform or operating system, including NetWare, Novell's 100% pure Java server platform. Novell's Open Solution Architecture is centered on the manageability of solutions across the network, and how these solutions are registered, managed, distributed, licensed and accessed. These attributes are embodied within the powerful control of a robust directory service that can manage the complexity. Novell's NDS offers open protocol access through LDAP and Java interfaces which will allow the integrated application platform to deliver easy cartridge management and security.
